In the true spirit of the Christmas season, Djokovic, Nadal, Federer: Tennis star’s foundations supporting children in need have come to the fore to help children in various countries both in their local homelands and around the world. Noles, Rafa, and Fed are all very active in their foundations with the most recent generous donation of $100,000 by the world No. 1 in ATP rankings.

Each of these tennis titans dig deep to keep their projects running, and it’s great to see them passionate about the support they are able to give to each of their chosen charities.

These campaigns and activities show true character from the tennis champions as go about their projects with a great deal of interest and personal involvement.

World no.1 and UNICEF National Ambassador to Serbia is marking the holiday season by lending his voice and financial support for disadvantaged children in Serbia and around the world.

“I hope my donation and support will help make a difference in the lives of young children throughout Serbia, especially those who have fewer opportunities to reach their full potential,” said Novak, who has made a $100,000 donation today to support early childhood education in Serbia.

“Building a solid foundation in the early years of a child’s life will not only help him or her reach their full potential but will also result in better societies as a whole.”

“UNICEF appreciates Novak’s commitment to children’s rights, and welcomes his engagement on early development for the most vulnerable children, which is so critical in Serbia” said Judita Reichenberg, UNICEF Area Representative.

On December 13, Nole was named the men’s 2011 International Tennis Federation world champion, having won three of the four Grand Slam titles.

Novak is including the most vulnerable children in his future.

World No. 2 Rafael Nadal launched his foundation, the “Rafa Nadal Foundation”, in February 2008, with the aim of supporting and providing opportunities for socially disadvantaged young people. The mission statement of the Foundation is:

“We want to provide an opportunity for children and adolescents with disabilities, those coming from underprivileged surroundings and those limited by an unfortunate family environment, who run the risk of being excluded from society.

“We offer educational programs using sport as a tool for personal and social integration, passing on values such as effort, self-improvement and respect in order to encourage their self-esteem and confidence.” (Original story here)

The Roger Federer Foundation supports the efforts of CAMFED in the district of Kibaha, Tanzania, to increase the number of girls leaving secondary school with a diploma and to enable a good start to their professional lives. The program was launched in 2008, and receives aid amounting to CHF 134,000. The three-year involvement has set itself the following goals:

  • 260 girls will be admitted to the secondary school and take the diploma by 2011
  • Provision of school fees, uniforms, shoes, school materials and sanitary supplies
  • Training of 40 managers for psycho-social aid
  • Holding community forums and the schooling of communities in the district of Kibaha in order to simplify children’s access to education
  • Enabling the establishment of rural businesses for 160 young women
  • Training of 90 young women as health activists
  • Organization of workshops where secondary school pupils can discuss their problems and develop joint possible solutions (Original story here)
